Book of My Favorite Dog Biographies, reveiw of rescue and emergency kits

The Frazier Family will release My Favorite Dog in May of 2000. The book will contain hundreds of biographies. The Frazier Family says they're doing this so people can share the love they have for their favorite pet. You may submit your own dog to be included in this book -- whether he or she is still on this earth, or has gone on to a better world. You would just have to send a biographical sketch, as well as a photograph.

There is no charge to either submit your dog, or to be included. And you don't even have to purchase the finished book. (But who's gonna be able to resist, I ask you?!) If you do buy a copy, a complimentary copy will be sent to your local library, again, at no charge to anyone. There'll be a bookplate acknowledging it as a gift in honor of the favorite dog.

This is a really cool idea! To find out how to submit your dog, you'll need an Information Sheet, so contact The Frazier Family, 2 Cedar Street, Fair Haven VT 05743, or call (802) 265-3160.

A.R.K. Has BAARK

We reviewed A.R.K.'s different rescue and emergency kits in the July/August 1999 Good Dog! A.R.K. President Ron Cimorelli tells us they've come out with a new kit (at this Editor's suggestion, she's happy to report!) called the Basic Automobile Animal Rescue Kit (BAARK). It has the tools you need for rescuing lost and confused dogs. Call 1-888-710-4ARK (4275), or click on www.ark4animals.com for details.

Dog Chew Dangers

The FDA warns that dog chews made of beef or pork may give people a salmonella infection. The warning followed some cases of illness in Canada from Canadian products. No cases have been reported in the U.S. Children and the elderly and people with compromised immune systems are at the most risk.

U.S. products have now been looked at, too. Beef jerky, pig ears, pig skins, and smoked hooves may all be risky to people, but safe for dogs. The FDA is working with Canadian authorities to figure out the nature of the risk, and how to make the products safer. Meanwhile, wash your hands after handling all dog chews!
