Issue - v1999_07 Product Test Report: Abby's Doggone Cookies are doggone good! We reviewed some of Abby's Doggone Good Gourmet Cookies in the March/April issue. You may re-member how much the dogs loved 'em! Now, we're writing about some more of Abby's delicious treats, including the new Carmella Pumpkin Pinwheels that has turned Chops back into a relentless cookie monster.
Owner and creator Susie Kaminsky tells us that a new freshness package is about to make its debut. These new, resealable bags are in a classy Gourmet Gold color and with a paw print design. Doggies can peek longingly at the treats through the bone-shaped "window." They replace the crinkly cellophane and ribbon packages she uses now. Carmella Pumpkin Pinwheels These are the newest cookies on the Abby's roster. They're named after Carmella, the new three-legged bundle of doggy love that Susie just adopted. The cookies are flat pinwheels in a two-tone design. The darker color is the pumpkin, and the lighter color is caramel. Actually, because the pinwheels are flat on the bottom, they kinda look like cuddly-cute snails! I've had these on my desk for a couple of days, and Chops has been "checking in" every fifteen or twenty minutes to see if the cookie status has changed to "available." These are going to be big hits in your household, too. The ingredients are wholesome: pumpkin, fresh eggs, non-fat milk, water, whole wheat flour, enriched flour, honey, cinnamon, vegetable shortening, caramel flavor. Flea Bites These are round flat cookies with scalloped edges studded here and there with chocolate chip-like bits, which are really the carob chips. Calling them flea-bites is a little silly, but they are kinda bumpy. Test dog Liza really liked hers and nudged me for more. Ingredients are: Whole wheat flour, fresh eggs, vegetable shortening, non-fat milk, carob, water. Collie Flour Veggie Crackers They make me want to scarf them down myself! (Ross said they've got a mild veggie flavor.) They're Cheese-it® look-alike crackers. Yum! Ingredients are tomato sauce, water, dehydrated vegetables, fresh eggs, vegetable broth, corn meal, enriched flour, vegetable shortening, baking powder, and a secret mild spice blend. Needless to say, all four test dogs went bonkers over these three very different cookies. Each package of Abby's Cookies weigh a little over 5 oz. (5.3-5.5 oz.). There are 8 to 10 treats per package. The cost of these treats is very reasonable, $4.50 each, plus shipping and handling.
