Ron Cimorelli is like a Noah for the '90s and beyond. His company, A.R.K. Enterprise of Upland California, dedicates itself to saving pets. And he's doing a fine job of it! He's invented ARK, which stands for Animal Rescue Kit, and two other kits useful in emergencies.

Animal Rescue Kit

The three different kits are for three different situations. Two of the kits come in white plastic containers with handles, and they're clearly marked -- in red type -- as emergency packs. The third is in a small, red, duffel bag, and also clearly marked in white lettering.

The Emergency Animal Rescue Kit (ARK) is for emergency use when your pet is home alone. My husband, Ross, was a volunteer firefighter for many years in New Jersey. He says that he worked at many a fire where the people got out, but the animals were left behind. There was nothing the firefighters could do about the animals -- unless they were lucky enough to catch them and bring them outside.

This Rescue Kit solves that problem by alerting emergency personnel to the fact that there's an animal present, and directing them to the kit for the tools needed to care for the pet. There's even a place on the outside of the white plastic case where you write your pets' names.

The kit comes with a red and white window decal that alerts emergency personnel (fire, police, animal control, etc.) that there's a pet the house. The decal has space for you to write in the exact location of the Emergency Animal Rescue Kit, itself. You may want to put the kit on your patio or back porch.

This kit also includes an Emergency Pet Information card. Here's where you write in the kind of pet, his description, and three people to notify in case of emergency. There's room on this card for a photo of your pet. The case also holds a small, rawhide treat used to distract the dog, and a 6' slip-ring type emergency leash -- if your dog has no collar, emergency personnel can just slip this around her neck.

The Emergency Animal Rescue Kit weighs 3 lbs. It's 3" x 5" x 8" and sells for $9.95 plus shipping and handling. At that price, it's cheap insurance that your pets will be taken care of during an emergency at your house. (And it would make a great gift for your local firefighters to keep on their truck!)

Next is the First Aid Kit. It's a terrific emergency preparedness tool. It can provide you with immediate medical help should an accident occur. It includes over 30 items needed in a first aid crisis:

1 trauma pad, 4 sterile gauze pads, 2 non-adhesive sterile pads, 2 sterile pads, eye wash, eye dropper, antiseptic burn cream, antibiotic ointment, alcohol prep pads, solar blanket, 1 roll of tape, 1 stretch gauze, a cold pack, latex gloves, an ACE bandage, scissors, tweezers, hemostat, penlight, tongue depressor, hydrogen peroxide, cotton swabs, a disposable razor, and an emergency treatment information sheet.

Cimorelli says there are plans to add a styptic pencil.

The First Aid Kit weighs 4 lbs. It's 3" x 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" and contains the basics for human first aid, too. It sells for $29.95 plus shipping and handling.

Last, but most definitely not least, is the Pet Emergency Tote (P.E.T). It's an attractive red bag with a white drawstring that hooks onto D-rings at the bottom of the bag. This enables you to carry it as a backpack.

The Tote contains all the supplies you need to keep your pet happy in case of an emergency evacuation.

Included are:

3 3.5 oz. bags of Iams® Mini-Chunks dog food
2 blue plastic food/water bowls
3 8.45 fl. oz. Aqua BLOX™ purified drinking water
1 small white cotton towel
3 poop-scoop bags
10' yellow rope
1 metal tie-out stake
1 solar emergency blanket
1 emergency pet I.D. card

The Pet Emergency Tote weighs 6 lbs. and is 13" x 17". It sells for $19.95 plus shipping and handling.

Ron Cimorelli is offering all Good Dog! readers the three kits as a Gift Set. Buy all three and pay $39.95 plus shipping and handling (that adds approximately $9.75.).

Extra window decals are $1.50 each. To order, call ARK toll-free at 1-888-710-4ARK (1-888-710-4275). Check out their website at http://www.ark4animals.com/.

These are very important items to own. They'll get you started and you can add what you think is necessary to keep your pet happy and comfortable in a given situation, such as a favorite toy or treat. Cimorelli says he's looking into an idea we gave him -- a pet rescue kit for the car, for those of us who are always picking up lost, dumped and stray animals in our travels. We look forward to it!
