From Good Dog! Magazine The FDA warns that dog chews made of beef or pork may give people a salmonella infection. The warning followed some cases of illness in Canada from Canadian products. No cases have been reported in the U.S. Children and the elderly and people with compromised immune systems are at the most risk. U.S. products have now been looked at, too. Beef jerky, pig ears, pig skins, and smoked hooves may all be risky to people, but safe for dogs. The FDA is working with Canadian authorities to figure out the nature of the risk, and how to make the products safer. Meanwhile, wash your hands after handling all dog chews! From Good Dog!
